Call to Prayer

Rav Shalom Arush spoke in Ashdod yesterday, and said among other things:

  • There is no military solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict;
  • There is no viable political solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict;
  • The security situation here is worsening because of spiritual apathy;
  • Hashem has put the people of Israel in a situation where nothing can help them but teshuva (repentance), prayer, and hafatza (spreading emuna/faith). There is no government in Israel that can solve today’s problems.

Rav Shalom is neither an alarmist nor a doomsday prophet. Yet, he’s terribly troubled about Israel’s predicament. He is urging everyone to devote at least 10 minutes a day in praying for the Jewish people in the Land of Israel, particularly during this week of Purim which commemorates a time in history when the Jewish people were in a very similar danger, in Persia (today’s Iran) and were delivered through fasting and prayer which bolstered Queen Esther’s intervention.

The observance of Purim begins at sundown, Thursday.
Shalom and many blessings to you,

Leah
